JC Newman's Cigar Factory

JC Newman's Cigar Factory located in the heart of Ybor City in Tampa Bay is one of the most unique historic sites that you can visit in Tampa. JC Newman founded the company in 1895 and is America's Oldest Family-Owned Premium Cigar maker. I got to experience a cigar rolling class in the historic building and take a tour of the company headquarters, It was much more than I imagined.

I started with a hand rolling class where we were taught how to roll tobacco around the cigar. We got to listen and learn from their own cigar rollers who are true professionals and great at their craft.

Luckily I was also able to get a small glimpse into the basement of the factory and this was very interesting. The company recently found an old box of cigars dated back from the beginning within a wall of the location and the tour guide gave us a glimpse of the box.

The cigar factory has the original cigar machines that they keep in working condition. The machines currently produce the product and they have special mechanics on hand to create parts for the machines. Since the machines are authentic and are not currently manufactured, special mechanics are required to create parts needed for repairs.

If you get a chance, stop by JC Newman's Cigar Factory and make some time for the guided tours, to uncover local history. It is one of the best experiences by far in Tampa Bay and I highly recommend it! Remember, Ybor City is the Cigar Capital of the World!

The company currently offers cigar rolling classes on Friday's. Check out their website for more information on how to book a class and learn how to roll a cigar.
